Beth Abraham Celebrates
90 Years of Caring for the Community

Bronx, NY, June 19, 2010 - Beth Abraham Health Services recently celebrated 90 years of caring for the chronically ill, disabled and elderly of the Bronx. The event paid tribute to legislators and community leaders who are long-time supporters of the organization, as well as long-standing employees.

Veteran Healthcare Executive Paul Rosenfeld
Named Chief Operating Officer of
Beth Abraham Family of Health Services

 

Bronx, NY, January 21, 2010 – Veteran healthcare executive Paul Rosenfeld is the new Chief Operating Officer of Beth Abraham Family of Health Services (BAFHS), announced the company’s President and CEO Michael Fassler.  The appointment becomes effective March 1, 2010.

 

As Chief Operating Officer, Rosenfeld’s responsibilities include the overall management and direction of BAFHS skilled nursing facilities, network of home and community-based programs, including a licensed home care agency, long-term home healthcare program and seven adult day health care programs.

 

Rosenfeld joins the Beth Abraham family from St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center of New York where he served as senior vice president and executive director of its continuing care services. Click here to view the full press release.

of Health Services Recognize Legislators

 

New York, December 16, 2009 -- New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA) and Beth Abraham Family of Health Services (BAFHS) recently held "Partners in Quality" Awards Presentations at BAFHS' four skilled nursing facilities, Beth Abraham Health Services (BAHS), Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (CNR), Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

 

The "Partners in Quality" Awards honored legislators for helping to protect seniors and individuals with disabilities during budget negotiations.

Beth Abraham Donates to Toys for Tots

 

Bronx, NY, December 16, 2009 -- Staff members at Beth Abraham Health Services (BAHS), a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, recently donated two boxes full of toys and games to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The items that were collected will be distributed to needy children in the New York metro area.

A "Mitten Tree" Grows at CCM-Amityville

 

Amityville, NY, December 16, 2009 -- The Sisters of Mercy and the Sisters of St. Dominic, many of whom are members of Comprehensive Care Management (CCM) in Amityville, a member of the Beth Abraham Family of HealthServices, knit or bought hats, mittens and scarves, which they recently donated to Bethany House in Roosevelt, a shelter for homeless women and children.  The Sisters collected the items for donation on a "Mitten Tree" (pictured). Left to right: Sister Grace Prenderville, Sister Rose Michael Hillery, Sister Rose Carmel Saladino, Sister Rosemary Gillen and CCM Amityville Site Director Kathleen Kadel.

Purchase, NY, December 2, 2009 - Conga legend Candido Camero, renowned jazz instrumentalist and composer David Amram, and multi-Grammy nominated percussionist Bobby Sanabria performed a special concert on December 2nd benefiting the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function's (IMNF) Music Therapy program at Schnurmacher. The concert took place at the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College SUNY, and also featured New York-based reggae/hip-hop band Shem's Disciples, led by Marlon Sobol, manager of the IMNF at Schnurmacher. The concert was part of a broader collaboration between the IMNF and Purchase College, SUNY.

CCM Opens Day Health Center in Yonkers

Yonkers, NY, November 20, 2009 - Comprehensive Care Management (CCM), a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services (BAFHS), recently opened a day health care center for the elderly in Yonkers. The  Center offers seniors a great opportunity to interact with each other in order to prevent isolation and depression. CCM members who visit the Yonkers site receive medical care at the CCM Westchester site through the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).

CNR Adult Day Health Care Program
Raises Funds for Alzheimer's Disease

 

Brooklyn, NY, October 30, 2009 -- CNR Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) Program, a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services (BAFHS) recently held a Mini Walk in support of the New York Alzheimer’s Association’s efforts to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease. The team, who called themselves CNR ADHC Steppers, raised more than $1,500.00 for the cause.

Holds Free H1N1 Information Session For Community

Bronx, NY, October 7, 2009 – Beth Abraham Health Services (BAHS) recently held a free informational session on the H1N1 Virus at 612 Allerton Avenue in the Bronx. A panel of experts consistingof Dr. Sandra Selikson, Vice President of Medical Services, BAHS; Dr. Jonathan Gold, Vice President for Medical Affairs, Comprehensive Care Management (CCM), a member of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services; and Eileen Butler, RN, Assistant Director of Education, CCM, spoke to attendees about flu prevention and gave tips on what to do if you contract the flu virus. They also separated the myths from the facts about H1N1 (swine flu).

Clari Gilbert at the 10th Annual Golf Classic

BRONX, NY, July 24, 2009 – Beth Abraham Family of Health Services honored its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Clari Gilbert at their 10th Annual Golf Classic fundraising event, which took place at Century Country Club & Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase, NYon Monday, July 13. This year’s golf classic was sponsored by Amalgamated Bank.

A formidable advocate for those who are disabled or chronically ill, Gilbert has, for more than a decade, championed a systemic culture change process in the Beth Abraham skilled nursing facilities that empowers staff, residents and their families to build relationships based on mutual respect and trust. Indeed, her work in furthering that culture change led its first ever implementation in New York City at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation (CNR), now a member of the Beth Abraham Family.

Margaret Tietz and Schnurmacher Receive Exemplary Ratings

 

July 24, 2009 – Margaret Tietz Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, members of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services, received five-star ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS created the Five-Star Quality Rating System to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing homes more easily and to help identify areas about which they may want to ask questions. Nursing homes with five-star ratings are considered to be "much above average."

In addition, Margaret Tietz (including the ADHC Program) was also Found Deficiency Free by the Department of Health (DOH).  This means that the annual DOH survey found Tietz's Federal and State program licensure requirements in “Full Compliance.”

Celebrates Opening of Amityville Site

 

CCM celebrated the opening of its 16th site in the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Dominic convent in Amityville. The new healthcare center, which offers the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) to both the nuns and the public, is the first of its kind in Long Island.

Beth Abraham Holds Ribbon Cutting and
Grand Opening of Internet Cafe for Residents

June 3, 2009 (Bronx, NY)Beth Abraham hosted a ribbon cutting and grand opening of their Internet Café on May 28. Thanks to a $50,000 grant from Assemblywoman Naomi Rivera, Beth Abraham was able to purchase 15 computers, keyboards, monitors, and network printers for use by residents. 

 

Beth Abraham will use these computers to introduce and implement an intergenerational program where their youth volunteers and young residents teach senior residents how to navigate the web, obtain information and communicate with friends and family.  Such interaction would serve to bridge the generation gap, bringing seniors and young people together in a teacher-learning environment.
